Oh, dairy me . . .

It seems the organizers of the Iowa State Fair have stirred up a hornet's nest with their plans to depict the late Michael Jackson - in butter!

Apparently, every year the Fair has a butter sculpture to commemorate something. This year's sculpture, according to their Web site, has stirred up controversy.

The concept of the sculpture will be a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Neil Armstrong’s moonwalk on July 20, 1969. In honor of Armstrong’s “giant leap for mankind,” this year’s sculpture will include an astronaut, an American flag and a buttery rendition of the surface of the moon. Depending on the vote, Michael Jackson would be featured in a small side portion of the sculpture as the first pop-star to perfect and popularize choreographed moonwalking.

In response to vigorous feedback to their initial announcement, the organizers have thrown the idea open to the popular vote. If you want Michael Jackson commemorated in butter along with Armstrong and the other astronauts, you can tell them so: alternatively, you can vote to nix the idea. Voting is open here.

Personally, I think there's been far too much fuss about the late Mr. Jackson already - but that's just my opinion, of course.

Michael Jackson was the first pop star to do the "moonwalk"? Maybe Fred Astaire didn't qualify as a pop star, but Astaire did the moonwalk in an old movie. Not to mention plenty of other dancers already did that move even before Astaire.

But most folks don't know anything about history, so I reckon everything old does become new again at times!
