Happy Birthday, Marines!

The US Marine Corps was founded on November 10th, 1775. It's celebrated that day as its birthday ever since.

Here's a video clip of the 2009 birthday greetings by the Commandant and Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.

And, to carry on with the sense of history contained in the Birthday Message, here's a 1941 recording of the Marines Hymn being sung (without accompaniment) by then-Corporal Jack D. Kirkbride. (This would, of course, have been prior to Pearl Harbor. I understand Corporal Kirkbride survived World War II, despite service in some of the most hazardous Pacific campaigns.)

A fitting birthday salute, I'd say. Congratulations, Marines, and Semper Fi!
