The truth about digital cables
Les Jones gives us a diagram showing the truth about those hideously overpriced HDMI cables that so many stores try to sell you. Worth reading. (Hint: don't buy 'em.)

When I bought my HD TV, I got a cable from Best Buy. All the cables in the TV section were overpriced. However, over in the computer section of the same store, they were cheaper.
I had to get another one later. WalMart had cheaper cables.

Monoprice.com is your best friend for all your cable-purchasing needs. Best prices I've found anywhere, comparable quality to everywhere. (For example: I needed a specific USB cable for my phone; it retails for about $30, and I got it from them for under $5 including shipping!)
At that, don't buy anything from Monster Cable, unless you really enjoy being had.
Also, gold-plated connectors are useful for corrosion resistance, but clean bare copper conducts (quite a lot) better, it just oxidizes in air.
