2010 Wildlife Photography contest draws to a close

I'm looking forward to the announcement of the winner(s) of the 2010 Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest. They'll be announced at an exhibition in London later this month.

I've been following this year's contest with interest, because last year saw the first-ever disqualification of the winning photograph for cheating. The rules state clearly that the photograph must not be of a tame animal, but it seems the winner hired a tame wolf from a Spanish wildlife park and 'staged' his photograph. As a result, he was stripped of his title and had to forfeit the £10,000 (about US $15,800) first prize.

Here are three of this year's entries that'll be judged later this month.

Andrew Parkinson - The Drop

Tomasz Racznyski - Fishing Frenzy

Ilia Shalamaev - Little Owls On Top

The link to the museum exhibition will also showcase the winning photographs once the judges' decision has been announced. It's worth bookmarking to see some spectacularly good nature photography.
