Now that's a hailstorm!

The video clip below was taken in early October in Arizona. It shows baseball-size hailstones striking the ground near a house in Phoenix.

Now that's a hailstorm! One of those hailstones, striking an unprotected head, is more than big and heavy enough to cause a fractured skull and concussion!

It's like being on the wrong end of God's trap range!

Dang!

The way the pool was churning reminded me of a big ol' boiling cauldron. Wow....

It was very noisy. I've got a window screen with tear in it from the oblique impact of a stone. I think the screen saved the window. The plastic planters in the garden, brittle from sun exposure, were hammered to bits.

I live near there, and some of my friends had rather nasty damage to their homes from the storm. To be fair, the hailstorms are rare, and seldom that bad, but the overall impression can be a little like being under artillery fire.

A friend of mine once had the interesting experience of driving across Missouri with an aluminum boat on top of his car when one of those storms hit. He said it was the loudest thing he'd ever heard!
