Grains of sand, up close and personal


Via an article in the Daily Mail, we learn of the macrophotography of Dr. Gary Greenberg. At his Web site he offers three-dimensional microscopic imaging technology for movies and other uses, and has a fascinating series of pictures of sand grains, flowers, food and the like in high magnification.

Are these all sound waves?

They are beautiful but. Um. I have degrees in geology and technically speaking, most of these are limestone fossils, not sand.
