Bye-bye, Rep. Lamar Smith (I hope!)

Courtesy of a link at Borepatch, we learn that there's a primary challenger to the detestable Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX). You may remember that Rep. Smith was the bought-and-paid-for shill for the execrable, Constitution-violating Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), which we discussed at length a few weeks ago. Fellow blogger Lawrence Person writes:

His issues page shows there’s much to like about Sheriff Mack. He’s for restraining spending, controlling the border, and against ObamaCare. Not only does he support the Second Amendment, he was a leading opponent of the Brady Bill, was the very first Sheriff (and very possibly the first person) to file suit to get it overturned, and was the second named plaintiff in Printz Vs. U.S., which overturned key provisions. In addition to SOPA, he also opposes the indefinite incarceration of citizens provision of the NDAA.

There's more at the link.

I'm glad that there are things to like about Sheriff Mack: but even if there weren't, I'd probably still support him, on the grounds that anybody would be better than Rep. Lamar Smith. The latter has outlived his usefulness and his value in Congress. He's demonstrated that he's become nothing more than the stooge of Hollywood and media moneybags, and is willing to compromise his principles (if any remain after his 13 terms in Congress), the trust of his constituents, and even the Constitution, to give them what they want. A pox on him!

I can't vote for Sheriff Mack, not being a resident of Texas or of that state's 21st Congressional district, but I can - and will - support him financially, in the hope that he'll trounce Rep. Smith in the primary elections, thereby removing a pestiferous pustule from the face of the American body politic.
