A day in the life of an airline pilot

An anonymous reader forwarded me the link to a blog called 'Adventures of Cap'n Aux'.  It's written by an airline pilot and former bush pilot in Alaska.  He's produced this 'video blog' titled 'A day in the life of an airline pilot'.

Interesting stuff for aircraft and flight enthusiasts, and his blog is also worth reading.

Here is another airline captains blog, although he only posts about once a month.

About the story on turbulence - he finds turbulence on the first leg of his day and says the best information on turbulence is from the guy in front of you.

All I can say is, "we're working on that". I think I know how to solve that problem. But it probably won't be during his flying career. The industry moves glacially slow.

Noticed the blog referral traffic from your site. Thanks for the post! Working on a new vid blog, "The Art of Landing," hopefully out late July ;)

@Graybeard: I'm intrigued by your comment about "working on" turbulence data. To what technology are you referring?

@capnaux - I can't say much, but my axiom is that "if you can't see something, you're looking at the wrong wavelength".

There are, for example, some lidars that give good return on the small (inevitable) dust particles in clear air turbulence, but no commercial systems I'm aware of. There are several other things being investigated in industry. My rough guess is that between the fundamental R&D, creating RTCA/EuroCAE specs and all, it's 10 to 20 years out, hence the remark it probably won't be in your flying career.

Thanks, Anonymous SiliconGraybeard!

Add to that the 20-year lag for airlines to actually implement the technology, and it won't be available for THIS generation of up-comers either, lol!

PS-Got a release date for my new vid; July 26th. Available on YouTube or my site at capnaux.blogspot.com

It'll be half as long and 2x as fun, lol!

Hope y'all like it!
