Doofus Of The Day #668

Growing up, I heard jokes about this sort of thing from my school friends, and in adulthood, I saw cartoons depicting it;  but I always thought it was just that - a joke or a cartoon, not something that happened in real life!  Today's Doofus has proved me wrong.

Tomasz Paczkowski from the northern Polish town of Elblag now sports bandages around his head after a request from his wife, to help with the housework while he enjoyed a few days off work, backfired.

“My wife had gone to work and asked me to help with the housework,” the 32-year old told the Polish newspaper Fakt. “After breakfast I started to work. I turned on the boxing channel on the TV, opened a beer and started ironing.

“I was really getting involved in the boxing and was not really thinking about what I was doing,” he continued. “Suddenly the phone rang and I mucked things up: instead of grabbing the receiver I picked up the iron and put it to my ear.”

There's more at the link.

Is that a case of, "Can you hear me OW!"?  (With apologies to Verizon, of course!)

Ouch #1 for the iron. Ouch #2 for the pun ... which leaves us steamed. But I must run: I'm pressed for time!

I've enough faith in my absentmindedness that I don't solder without a nice big cup of ice-water beside me.
It is from tiny soldering-iron burns that I learned the trick of immediately icing the burn, which is then unnoticeable an hour later.
The only really stupid trick I've done so far was use my trick of using my lips to pull more solder off the spool -- not optimal for lead ingestion at any rate with circuit board work, but when you are doing plumbing with a torch the end of that solder spool does get mighty hot...

Was it really an iron, or the hot line to the President?.

Back when I was in college in Germany, I spotted a t-shirt featuring Helmuth Kohl standing behind an ironing board, his trousers in the board, and the iron to his ear while saying "Hier Kohl." You can guess who was not in popular favor at the time.
