Weird beastie, isn't it?

Courtesy of a comment by reader bmq215 at this post, we learn of the existence of something called a 'mantis shrimp'.  It's certainly a weird-looking thing!

I liked the comment left on the video's YouTube page by user 'snowinowen4':  "The Mantis Shrimp would be very good at stopping burglars, but sadly only at SeaWorld."

Interesting,
A friend of mine caught one a couple days ago. Said it tasted like a cross between a Maine Lobster and Blue Crab. I guess the one he caught was between 9 and 10 inches long.

Dang that is one feisty critter.

I've seen quite a few while snorkeling in East Timor. They are indeed amazing. With such great eyesight, they are definitely more intelligent/aware than anything else on the coral reefs. Incredible animals.
