A bleg for a good cause

As many of you know, I help disabled and handicapped people learn to shoot, and sometimes to do more than just shoot.  Some go on to become accomplished marksmen, and hunt or participate in competitive events as well.  A few have had to use what I've taught them to defend themselves.  To my not inconsiderable satisfaction, every one of them that's had to do so is still with us, alive and uninjured.  Their assailants . . . not so much.  (That'll give me a warm fuzzy any day!)

I know a person who really needs a defensive firearm, but is financially in no position to afford one.  I'd help them with one of mine, as I've done on numerous occasions in the past, but right now I simply don't have anything suitable (I've handed out too many in recent months - I need to save up and buy some more to replenish my training and loan battery).  I can't identify the person on this blog, for reasons that are related to their security (you'll notice I'm being very careful to not even identify their gender, never mind anything else), and there won't be any follow-up reports either, for the same reason.

Would those of you who know me personally, and have come to trust me over the years, please consider donating something towards this need?  Including firearm, ammunition, holster and all related costs, I think something suitable can be bought and sufficient range time provided for an all-in cost of about $500.  I'm not asking any one person to contribute that much (although if you want to and can afford it, go for it!);  but if a few of you who know and trust me will chip in with $50 to $100 each, that'll do it.

If you're willing and able to help, please send me an e-mail (my address is in my blog profile:  click on my name under the heading "About Me & Contact Info" in the sidebar, below my books, to see it), and let me know.  I'll send you my mailing address.  It won't be tax-deductible, it won't be acknowledged by the ultimate recipient (at least, not yet, and perhaps not ever), but I promise it'll go to a good cause and not into my back pocket!

Thanks.

Peter

Send me your paypal address. I'm in for something.

@Jon: Your profile doesn't give your name or e-mail address, so I can't send you anything! Please drop me a line at my e-mail address, and we'll take it from there. Thanks.

Peter,

What would be the suitable firearm?

Gerry

@Gerry: It's probably going to be a Ruger SR9C, at this budget level. I've already got one lined up for the person concerned, and they'll be getting a loaned unit in a day or two to try out and see how they like it. I'm pretty sure it'll meet their needs.

I would like to help. E-mail is rctoad@excite.com. Paypal would be easiest. My e-mail is not windows friendly. Like your blog and have enjoyed your viewpoints.

I'd be happy to help too, but I agree with many other here that a PayPal account would be my preferred method. Can you set up a PayPal account with a unique email that would only be used for donations for your disabled students? Then you could re-use that setup for any future occurrences.

@Mike: You can send a PayPal donation to the e-mail address in my blog profile, if you wish: but I don't want to set up a specific e-mail address for that purpose, as I don't intend to do regular fund-raisers for this purpose. If I wanted to do that, I'd have to establish a non-profit corporation for tax purposes, and go through all the regulatory hoops. Frankly, that's just too much trouble; so I keep things low-key and don't normally look for outside help.

Peter, sorry for my confusion earlier. A little something is on the way.

Peter,
Just sent you $25 via PayPal.
Good on you for all the effort you put into 2A support.

@Jon and Uncle Lar: Thank you both very much! I'm very grateful for your help.

My apologies,

did you get my SECOND email?

Take care.

Peter said...

@shugyosha: Nothing received under that username, sorry, and nothing in my spam filter.

Sorry, the username comes from somwhere else. Name's Ferran. We swapped a couple of mails and I proposed a solution. I'd like to know if it suits you.

Take care
