Case body taper of the X39 case requires a curved mag, especially on std. capacity mags.
Tweaking the feed lips and follower may be required, and possibly the ramps on the barrel extension. There are now hybrid lowers available that accept AK mags, these may not be ideal if switching uppers.
The other issue is potential bolt failure at case head surround area . This due to the thinner wall in this area necessitated by the larger case head dia. of the X39.
I used a Cason Engineering BCG on my AR and am very pleased.
The carbine is built on Aero Precision upper and lower, carbine length DI gas system on a mid weight barrel, milspec buffer, Magpul MOE furniture.
This was built as a general purpose, not an all-purpose rifle, in the interest of simplicity. (The AR is already complicated enough...)

For others interested in an X39 AR, check out Cason Engineering, and Liberty Gun Works, for parts, as well as complete custom builds.

=BCE56=
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-68453418094059891462014-12-09T16:17:08.451-06:002014-12-09T16:17:08.451-06:00Magpul's Art of the Tactical Carbine DVD is al...Magpul's Art of the Tactical Carbine DVD is also a good watch for those who have fired their 1,000 rounds and are looking to learn / watch some more advanced techniques.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02452265219044156435noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-89236119446409779692014-12-09T13:59:01.811-06:002014-12-09T13:59:01.811-06:00Learn to properly clean and lube.Learn to properly clean and lube.Brianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02517789242036483994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-70229827452527096122014-12-09T08:15:46.422-06:002014-12-09T08:15:46.422-06:00Lots of quality and value in the AR field at Palme...Lots of quality and value in the AR field at Palmetto State Armory. Everything from stripped lowers, complete lowers, complete uppers to complete rifles. Their Freedom Rifles (when available) are a good deal. Blems (when available) make the prices even more attractive. These two are my preferred suppliers for those reasons.

As for training, you can never get enough, which is why I advocate finding a rifle or carbine course somewhere every year and taking it; you can always learn something new or refine something better. And the Civilian Marksmanship Program offers an excellent two-day Small Arms Firing School during the National Matches where Army Marksmanship Unit professional shooters coach you on the M-16 platform and teach you all of the solid basics like position shooting, sight picture, sling use, etc., for under a hundred bucks, ammo included.Murphy's Lawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17164780742334950772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-63047572006051845622014-12-09T06:35:25.634-06:002014-12-09T06:35:25.634-06:00In regards to training, see if there is an Applese...In regards to training, see if there is an Appleseed class near you. (But if you need an extra round handguard or two you can email me and I will see you are taken care of.

And coincidentally, on Monday the USPS dropped off the pistol upper. Now we await the brown truck bringing the pistol buffer, the BCG, and the charging handle.

For the pistol build, the charging handle is a case of don't buy twice. If I bought a GI charging handle and then added a slightly bigger latch, it costs as much as buying the charging handle with the bigger latch right from the start. (And I can make you a great deal on GI charging handle latches.)

And you can tell people that are buying an AR that in most cases they are buying their first AR. They won't believe you, but it is true nevertheless.

A topic for later is whether you should buy a .22 long rifle adapter or a complete .22 long rifle upper for your AR. The short answer is yes, both.

John in Philly

John in Phillyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16196033252818387245noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-84656964229755197752014-12-09T04:54:32.893-06:002014-12-09T04:54:32.893-06:00Practice, practice, practice.
