The pitot tubes to the engines were clogged with bird guts and since there was no movement of air to the sensor, the engines immediately went into idle. The computers on the Airbus were programmed that way. The pilots cannot overide that feature.MrGarabaldihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05768774166065615995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-60601924276951711142011-07-31T19:36:48.259-05:002011-07-31T19:36:48.259-05:00A large part of the failure also lies with the lac...A large part of the failure also lies with the lack of control feedback on the side sticks... In several cases the pilot in command didn't get the message or training to FLY THE PLANE at the crucial time or became disoriented and panicked thus moving the rudder, aileron or elevator controls in the very opposite direction they should be moved to save the aircraft. (Yup, even pilots with 10 or 20 thousand hours of flight time can and do panic on occasion)

In the book; "Fly by Wire: The Geese, the Glide, the Miracle on the Hudson", the author, William Langewiesche, gives a great explanation of this type of aircraft control.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
