We would gently collide with other sweeps, cruisers, peers and nobody above took any notice. We didn't do much damage to ourselves or others and they were so fun to drive in the West and Persian Gulf. Not sure about the east coast ships. They werern't "us". The 9 on the west coast were mostly amazing ships, crews, officers and CO's.HMS Defianthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10024721130102173694noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-6783141869790355682022-05-09T06:41:43.964-05:002022-05-09T06:41:43.964-05:00Too many good books to read in the short time we h...Too many good books to read in the short time we have on earth, and good Lord what a story you've included here.<br />Many thanks.Dan Pattersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10460560553797895958noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-21293345045204135482022-05-07T21:06:25.621-05:002022-05-07T21:06:25.621-05:00Iron men! Nicholas Monsarrat was also an RNVR officer, ending the war as a Lieutenant-Commander, and commanded three ships (corvettes and frigates). His novel was therefore written from personal experience, not just using his imagination.Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10595089829300831372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-86862438180480667182022-05-07T10:25:30.288-05:002022-05-07T10:25:30.288-05:00Another good book about warfare in the North Atlan...Another good book about warfare in the North Atlantic is "Clear The Decks", by Daniel V. Although a novel, it is essentially an accounting of his service with the Royal Navy in the Atlantic. There are some truly unforgettable descriptions in it. I think I first read it when I was a young teenager, snagged it off my parents' bookshelf; it left indelible images!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10408199921844419102noreply@blogger.com
