Our local Wal-Mart gets in .22LR ammo at least once per week, usually twice, but it sells out within an hour of being put on the shelves. You have to learn what day and time it'll be put out, and be in line to get your ration.

Fortunately, I stocked up before the panic hit, and have well over 20K rounds in my stash. I've sold or donated over 10K rounds over the past year to shooters who needed it to learn from scratch. Now I'm suggesting they buy BB guns and get their initial training on those . . .
Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10595089829300831372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-45171416627720009952014-01-09T17:58:26.335-06:002014-01-09T17:58:26.335-06:00500 rounds of .22LR ammunition will cost you anywh...500 rounds of .22LR ammunition will cost you anywhere from $10-$50, depending on brand and quality.

Where can I buy some of this ammo? If I want more precision on the Colt, I can take a scope from another AR (LaRue lever detachable mounts).

Two semi-automatics: P99 for me, SR9C for wife, both 9mm. The P99 in particular has gone several thousand rounds without malfunction with a wide variety of ammo types.

One revolver: a Ruger LCR in 357. Pocket or ankle carry.

One shotgun: Remington 870 20 gauge with light and mag extension.

One thing to consider is a set of firearms that share magazines. I have a Beretta CX4 Storm and a PX4 Storm, both in 9mm, both use the same magazines. I don't practice as often with these, hence I didn't list them above.

I also have a P99c that can use P99 magazines - THAT might come along :)Fargazerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03218101114700101967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-9016012005024333682014-01-09T11:56:52.503-06:002014-01-09T11:56:52.503-06:00.30-30 lever action carbine - mine's a Marlin ....30-30 lever action carbine - mine's a Marlin - for most suburban/near-rural defense: manageable in a vehicle, accurate at the range needed, plenty of stopping power, and good for hunting. Pump shotgun for in-house defense (just the sound of it should send saner invaders running.) They've been making them for well over a century now, and a good one will last about that long. I wound up with an old Mossberg US Traning rifle for not a lot of money that way.

For a centerfire rifle, I went with a Colt 6920 (Ar-15). A little bit more money, but I've read too many stories of off brand AR's choking in classes.
