A whole lot of air cargo USED to move on PASSENGER flights. Flights were/are down because of covid, so there is less capacity available for freight.

--the whole 'pass a drug screen' is definitely keeping some jobs empty. No matter the state level legality of use, the DOT and transportation regulators have a very dim view of drug use by CDL holders. Warehouse staff often have to drive forklifts or pickers, and so companies test them too.

--lastly, I work mostly in what I call the 'secondary' economy- reselling on various platforms like ebay. A lot of that activity takes place in person and in cash, and I'm seeing a HUGE increase in people giving it a try. There is a whole subculture on youtube, big enough to support youtube channels that generate their content by reselling, but generate their INCOME from youtube (Harry Tornado is one example)

I think it's far too easy to blame the wuflu handouts for people not wanting to return to trad jobs. NO ONE wants to work for amazon in logistics or any of the other log companies. Just google "name" plus "abuse" or "working conditions" to see plenty of examples. (crazy hot warehouses, peeing in bottles because there isn't time for breaks, high goals, abusive mgmt...) Lots of people are either formally or informally making money on their own, picking over the carcass of our society (myself included.)

Lots of people dumpster diving or scrapping too for 'fun and profit'.

Even during the depression, the rag and bone man made money.

nNick Flandreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13019834912388638989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-56066086634358323682021-10-06T00:51:45.784-05:002021-10-06T00:51:45.784-05:00You know that that heater will work with #1 diesel...You know that that heater will work with #1 diesel or even #2 in a pinch. Sales are up across the board except the meat department.
Prices are starting to go up. Basically the 1000-2000 new HGV licenses per month that used to replace all the ones that quit didn't get started. So now the UK is ~30k drivers short.

I suspect much the same applies to the US and there's no way to make that shortfall up quickly because it takes months to learn how to drive a large truck and only a limited number of slots per day to take the testFrancis Turnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09239588633595604498noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-90853713689935496512021-10-05T18:10:12.668-05:002021-10-05T18:10:12.668-05:00Seems China has loosened the unofficial boycott of...Seems China has loosened the unofficial boycott of Australian coal.
https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/china-folds-unloads-australian-coal-despite-import-ban-amid-power-crunchRay - SoCalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11293232996007277071noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-39816754698733440352021-10-05T16:42:51.778-05:002021-10-05T16:42:51.778-05:00My wife went to the local oil change shop today an...My wife went to the local oil change shop today and was told they were out of oil filters for her vehicle. Furthermore, they had gone to the auto parts store next door and bought out all of their filters and were still out of stock. They instructed her to go down to a different auto parts store to buy a filter and they would discount her the cost of that filter.

To add to this, I usually change the oil on my truck myself to save on money because it takes so much more oil. I usually by Motorcraft brand oil and filters at Walmart because they have the best prices -- typically ~$75 for everything. Well, Walmart has neither the oil nor filters and the best price I can find around town is $113. That's nearly a $40 price increase since last April!Jack Ribbunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13173447943953626511noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-69491289085048282062021-10-05T11:58:47.232-05:002021-10-05T11:58:47.232-05:00WSF is correct.
