I can see I have lots of reading ahead!

:-)Peterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10595089829300831372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-27229738038481421912011-03-12T07:43:55.115-06:002011-03-12T07:43:55.115-06:00That's a name that brings back memories, but o...That's a name that brings back memories, but of a job, not a submarine. I worked for John Schratz, a nephew (I think) of Captain Paul Schratz, but I did not learn of the relation until after Captain Schratz had passed away.

More submarine reading, on the off chance that it's new to you:

Wahoo: The Patrols of America's Most Famous World War II Submarine (Richard O'Kane).

Clear the Bridge! : The War Patrols of the U.S.S. Tang (Richard O'Kane).

And, the patrol reports of US WW2 Submarines, online at http://hnsa.org/doc/subreports.htm

US Sub reports weren't dry. Richard O'Kane's were especially good reading. See, for example, this report from SS Tang:

http://issuu.com/hnsa/docs/ss-306_tang?mode=a_p

O'Kane's writing is just delightful, with enough technical detail that you can get a sense of the tension and drama without someone having to tell you "this is dramatic, right here."Wayne Conradhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10595005905880642013noreply@blogger.com
