I realized he was looking down a recently dug gopher hole.Seconds later, wham! He speared the gopher, flipped it in the air, and down the hatch....Jeff F.https://www.blogger.com/profile/01126399202504962749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-19307995956810356212014-11-09T20:34:30.408-06:002014-11-09T20:34:30.408-06:00That bird had better be careful that the fish don&...That bird had better be careful that the fish don't turn the tables on him...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZwPG_x6QEkbmq215https://www.blogger.com/profile/06753133447458358901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-44469899091984881312014-11-09T19:33:01.144-06:002014-11-09T19:33:01.144-06:00LOL, one lazy bird...LOL, one lazy bird...Old NFOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16404197287935017147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-11839871639150175902014-11-09T19:17:12.506-06:002014-11-09T19:17:12.506-06:00Forty or so years ago, I saw an article, with pict...Forty or so years ago, I saw an article, with pictures, about an American Green Heron in Miami that would pick up bits of spilled feed (from vending machines, for folks to feed some of the zoo animals) and drop them in the water as a lure. Some birds are pretty clever. How many times they see stuff dropped in the water and see fish go for it before they make a connection, I don't know.LoFan Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09670806965670035017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6244999628674918029.post-39656543331278720022014-11-09T14:28:04.563-06:002014-11-09T14:28:04.563-06:00I worked for many years at place that had a swamp....I worked for many years at place that had a swamp... I'm sorry, a 'wetland preserve' behind it. We would feed the various lifeforms (turtles, fish, Moorhens, etc) after lunch.

Occasionally, there would be a great heron or two who would follow us. When we'd throw the bread into the water, they'd pick that spot to go fishing in.

Not exactly the same, but they were smart enough to know when we were going to feed the fishies that they'd be getting a meal as well.Robb Allenhttp://blog.robballen.comnoreply@blogger.com
