From my online buddy Diamond Mair comes the following, via The Few, The Proud, The Marines Forum:
A biker is riding by the zoo when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.
The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain, the lion jumps back, letting go of the girl. The biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.
A reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says, "Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life."
"It was nothing, really. The lion was behind bars. I just saw this kid in danger, and SOMEBODY had to save her."
"Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, you know," the reporter said, "and tomorrow's papers will have this on the front page. What motorcycle do you ride?"
"A Harley-Davidson."
The journalist leaves.
The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed reports news of his actions. On the front page he reads:
BIKER GANG MEMBER ASSAULTS AFRICAN IMMIGRANT AND STEALS HIS LUNCH!
*Sigh* . . . if only it weren't so likely to be true! I've long given up expecting fairness, accuracy and honesty from the news media.
Peter
Oh, this *WASN'T a true story?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I can totally see the media doing something like that.
Ummm... I've almost BEEN the subject of such. And still could be: we have a court case coming up for one of our kids.
ReplyDeleteI had to have a meeting with the Chief of Police of a nearby city (new BACA Chapter opening up). Guy kept going on and on about "motorcycle gangs". even pointed out that "there've been several cases of child abuse by bikers over the years".
Had to bite my tongue before the obvious retort popped out...
