Ouch!
If any of you are racing fans (of the automotive variety), you may have been watching the second round of the Le Mans series over the weekend.
If so, you would have seen Stéphane Ortelli total his Courage-Oreca LMP1 in rather spectacular fashion.
In case you missed it . . . here it is.
Would you believe he walked away from that with only an ankle injury?

Yeah, I don't think that's gonna buff out...
ReplyDeleteActually, it looks like the monocoque survived in pretty good shape. Put some new corners on it (replace the destroyed suspension parts), a new body and assorted bits and that car could be back on track in short order.
ReplyDeleteOf course, they'll tear it down to the bare chassis and inspect every joint and connection before that happens, but race cars are built hell for strong and the parts you see flying are actually designed to come off and take energy with them. I know my Formula 500 was once wrecked and required all four corners to be replaced - was back on track in a month.
