Doofus Of The Day #58

Here's a hint.

If you want to do yoga naked on the beach . . . put your clothes on afterwards!

The discovery of two sets of clothes abandoned on a beach led to a £10,000 police search.

A manhunt began when a pile of clothing was found on 10.30pm Monday night. A second set was found around 1.30am on Tuesday.

The search involved police divers and three separate teams of coastguards in Margate, Kent.

The mystery was solved when a man from Margate contacted police at 11.30am yesterday to say he had been doing yoga on the beach in the early hours.

He told police he had forgotten where he left the clothes - and had taken a spare set for just such an eventuality. Then he apparently left them as well.

A source at Margate police station added: 'We've got enough crime around here as it is without having our guys' time wasted with some idiot who fancied trying out the lotus position in the middle of the night.'

If this doofus left both sets of clothing on the beach, how the heck did he get home stark naked? Walking? Driving?

And where did he keep his keys?

Perhaps I don't really want to know that . . .

  1. The truly sad part of this situation is the fact that this police agency has come to the point that they would pursue something like a set of clothes on the beach to the point it was this costly. Pardon the pun but this is an example of a police agency going to extremes to cover their ass. I work for an agency in the United States and we have a certain degree of this but to spend this amount on an incident such as this is absurd. A check of the area to see if anyone saw anything and a check of the beach and the water as far as the eye can see for a quarter mile in each direction and a found property report should have been sufficient. I personally believe the party at fault in this incident is the supervisor who lacked the testicular fortitude to make the judgement call on this incident. Or, the micro manager to whom the supervisor reports.

  2. Imagine what to what lengths the search might have gone if the clothes found on the beach were ladies items...
