Light blogging tonight . . .

. . . after a long day of counseling, preceded (as mentioned yesterday) by two 'come-to-Jesus meetings' (in the US Marine Corps sense of that phrase) to deal with a couple of gossiping idiots. I don't think they like me very much any more, but I hope they've got the message!

Anyway, for your entertainment, here's a video of the stupidest exercise machine I've ever seen. I mean - you jog in the open air, right? And if the weather's bad, or your neighborhood's not safe, you can jog indoors on a treadmill, right?

So why combine the two? What's the point?

Normal blogging will resume tomorrow. Sleep well, friends.

Peter

  1. You've chosen a tough path my friend.
Some days are harder than others.
Some days bear fruit in unexpected ways, as well.

  2. About the treadmill vehicle: didn't you read the text crawl? It will turn our country from a fat one to a fit one! /sarcasm

Did you see how hard the operator was leaning into it? I'm guessing that the effort involved might be at least as much as running with a ruck. But the CG is lower, and there's less of a sense of burden on the upper body. So more workout per mile / per step.

You still have to turn the thing around to go home, and the turning radius looks pretty bad. Circular jogging trail? OK, I guess.

Then there's the footprint. Nowhere near as compact as a pedestrian or even a bicyclists.

    So, yeah, pretty dumb, overall.

  3. I'm of the thought that if the two gossip-mongers came away happy with you for the "come to Jesus" session...well, either you phrased things wrong, or they had iPod headphones in during the meeting; if someone likes you for giving them a swat upside the head, however well-deserved, it's only because they looked back at the behaviour that lead up to the swat and were horrified with themselves. Only a masochist is happy with it just after the fact.

As for the mobile treadmill - yes, but how does it handle in the mud?

  4. Sometimes you gotta shine a light on things that some would leave in the shadows.

You did good, now it's up to them to fix things. Maybe one of them will even admit that you were right.
