Doofus Of The Day #128

It seems that Jocelyn Addison, 19; Nia McBrayer, 21; and Jenniffer Watson, 18, of Bedford, Ohio, were in need of some ready cash. They decided to rob a local Dollar Tree store - but they weren't sure how to go about it. So, they did what most people do nowadays.

They looked it up on the Internet.

That's right - they searched for 'how to conduct an armed robbery'. They even found the instructions they were looking for.

Unfortunately, they failed to detect that the 'instructions' they located were a satire - not the real thing. Here's a sample (click to enlarge).

They duly arrived at the Dollar Tree, wearing masks and brandishing a BB gun, only for the manageress to inform them that she couldn't open the safe. Thwarted, they ran for their getaway car and drove away. However, the manageress was able to describe their vehicle to police, who soon located and arrested them. Inside the car, along with their robbery paraphernalia, they found the printout of the instructions from the Internet. I presume it'll now be Exhibit A at the trial.

Those interested may find the whole story, including the full instructions and the police report, at The Smoking Gun.

How anybody could read those instructions and believe that they were a genuine criminal guide is utterly beyond my understanding. However, it seems the three ladies (?) operate on a different wavelength to the rest of us. It therefore seems only fair to acknowledge these criminally inept, but computer-literate incompetents with a collective Doofus Of The Day award.

  1. This is an excellent example of the psychological neoteny that Al Fin has harped on occasionally.

  2. Agreed, Loren, which is why Al Fin is on my blogroll. However, I suspect these doofi might deserve a label other than 'neoteny' . . .
