An update on that Swedish gang

A couple of days ago, I mentioned a report from Sweden that one of the biggest criminal gangs in that country had taken over a Web site dedicated to publicizing child abusers.

It seems that the report attracted some unwelcome attention . . . and that those giving the attention may soon regret their actions!

Hackers on Tuesday night accessed an email account used by the head of the Original Gangsters (OG) criminal gang and later published the correspondence on a popular internet forum.

The email account is used by OG-head Denho "Dano" Acar to administer Original Pharma, an online "pharmacy" operated by Acar which offers a variety of weight loss and body building supplements, as well as clothing bearing the Original Gangster logo.

“I’m not worried about the contents [of the emails] and we’ve decided to look into who hacked our email,” he told Crime News.

The correspondence, numbering over 100 pages, includes information about Original Pharma orders, as well as inquiries about becoming a member of the OG gang.

It was published anonymously and “totally uncensored” on the Flashback Forum website.

. . .

Acar suspects his online pharmacy was targeted because of his gang’s recent decision to take over the operation of another website which publishes the identity of sex offenders.

When asked what may be in store for those who hacked his email should Acar ever discover their identity, the gang leader offered few specifics.

“Those who choose to play with fire should be ready to get burned,” he said.

Y'know, I think any hacker who would deliberately target the head of one of the best-known (i.e. notorious) criminal gangs in Sweden is just begging for trouble! Note the gang leader's last sentence. If I were the hacker(s) concerned, I'd be leaving the country - yesterday!

  1. Personally, I wouldn't worry too much if I were one of the hackers involved. I seriously doubt that anyone is going to figure out who did this.
This gang, while they sure are street smart, probably lacks computer/internet smarts...
I can think of one guy who might feel the heat under him though ;).

  2. I wouldn't be too sure about that Sebastian.

First off, criminal gangs these days normally have some highly efficient interal computer hackers themselves. Comes with the territory of being in a crimial group, you have to secure the really secret stuff, not some online fake pharmacy.

Second off, if you don't have one "in house" you can bet they know some that are "contract" and will put thier skills to use.

Third, the old trick of using "proxy" servers is not as solid as it was. You can be tracked, and others have been, all the way back to where you accessed the web via the IP of your provider.

I venture to say, depending on how much and bad they want these hackers, these folks might just decide to "make an example" out of the hackers.

Its a matter of respect after all.

Will be interesting to see what happens.
