The video speaks for itself.

  1. I guess I'm a Doofus of the Day (Retroactive) too.

A few years ago I went to lunch at a local I-Hop which happened to be in the parking lot of a K-Mart.

While I was eating, my old bushwhacker Isuzu Trooper somehow came unstuck from its parking spot on a slight grade and gently rolled downhill while making a 90° turn down the middle of a row of parked cars, neat as can be.

This is where I found it when I came out of the restaurant - parked right in the middle of the row completely straight and true.

I looked at every car in its path very carefully to make sure it hadn't hit any of them and, miracle of miracles, it hadn't so much as touched a one of them.

Upon inspection, I discovered that the emergency brake cable was broken and wasn't doing a damn thing, and not but a few weeks later the clutch went out explaining why even Reverse wasn't enough to keep it parked.

That was one of the luckiest strikes I've ever had, even though I had no idea while it was going down.

The amount of damage that perambulating P.O.S. could have down could easily have bankrupted me!

  4. My sister-in-law and her toddler were almost smooshed when a teenage girl didn't put her car in park and it rolled backwards into the side of her car as she was trying to get into it.

On a different note - Since you're a Top Gear fan, look up the episode where the guys are in the US in the American muscle cars, and one of them drives off in the other guy's car, which is operated by one of those keyless ignitions that are activated by the fob kept on you. The driver was sitting in a diner, close enough for the doors to stay unlocked and keyless ignition to be active, and enough for somebody to step in and drive off for a short distance and leave it parked in the middle of the road. Technology, heh!
