Good for him - but the politicians won't learn . . .

A New York State businessman has finally pulled the plug on the place after working out what it was costing him to live there.

Politicians like to talk about incentives -- for businesses to relocate, for example, or to get folks to buy local. After reviewing the new budget, I have identified the most compelling incentive of all: a major tax break immedi ately available to all New Yorkers. To be eligible, you need do only one thing: move out of New York state.

Last week I spent 90 minutes doing a couple of simple things -- registering to vote, changing my driver's license, filling out a domicile certificate and signing a homestead certificate -- in Florida. Combined with spending 184 days a year outside New York, these simple procedures will save me over $5 million in New York taxes annually.

By moving to Florida, I can spend that $5 million on worthy causes, like better hospitals, improving education or the Clinton Global Initiative. Or maybe I'll continue to invest it in fighting the status quo in Albany. One thing's certain: That money won't continue to fund Albany's bloated bureaucracy, corrupt politicians and regular special-interest handouts.

There's more at the link.

Yep. If you overload the productive members of your society with taxes, fees, fines, charges, imposts and duties, in order to hand out freebies to the non-productive members . . . sooner or later, you're going to drive the productive members away. There's no reason whatsoever why they should allow you to rob them, in order to hand out what's rightfully theirs to those who haven't earned and don't deserve it.

California's already in the same mess. Just look at the economic profiles of those who've been moving out of there over the past decade. New York's now hitting the same problem, and other tax-and-spend states will follow.

Will the tax-and-spend politicians learn from this?

Like hell they will!

  2. Bravo to a smart man.

I don't understand the intellectual disconnect that allows supposedly intelligent politicians to actively bleed to death the only people who actually support the society they purport to govern.

Perhaps I am wrong about the 'intelligent' assumption.

  4. Eventually they will attempt to prevent folk from leaving by force. This is the commie standard- those border barriers were not built to keep people out, but to keep them IN.
