Today's Doofus is from Maryland.
The woman . . . told Anne Arundel County police that her home and shed had been burglarized and that a "significant amount" of property had been stolen.
Two days later, she noticed the yard sale taking place just a few houses away and observed that items being sold had been stolen from her during the burglary, police said.
Detectives obtained a search warrant and recovered about $25,000 worth of the victim's property, which was returned to her.
David Anthony Perticone, 46, was charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary and theft.
There's more at the link.
Yep . . . if you're going to steal stuff, it helps to dispose of it a bit further away from its rightful owner!

ReplyDeleteIf this were a "just" instead of "merciful" world, that would read,
"...first-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, theft, and first-degree stupidity."
Also, if you are going to nick that much stuff, you might as well go in for a method with a higher rate of return. In these rough economic times, it is just the sensible thing to do.

LOL- Bet that family doesn't have too many branches...
ReplyDeleteTo quote one of my favorite "That's Jake" cartoon panels:
ReplyDelete"If stupidity were a crime, we'd have a pair of felons on our hands."
