Amazing video of an owl landing


I've no idea how the photographer captured this video of an eagle owl landing on a branch. He must have concealed his camera very well indeed! At any rate, it's produced some spectacular footage.





Lovely! I've always liked owls, and this is some of the best footage of an owl in flight that I've ever seen.

    First of all, its good to see you are back to normal after the 'incident'.

    Second of all, I didn't realize that owls wore trousers!! (around the 0.16 mark)

    Looks like maybe a "pinhole" camera, rigged with a fisheye lens and maybe a photoelectric trip...

    Spectacular footage, however it was done.

    Whoa... nice approach to landing! Agree with Leatherneck, it is interesting to watch it spill air as it touches down.

    If you look it appears you can see the leather " Jesses " on his legs . IMHO the owl is some falconers and is being called with meat.

    No matter how good a pilot I get, I'll never be able to fly as cleanly, smoothly, efficiently, and gracefully as that.

    I saw the jesses too - but want to note that not all owls are shy. We live in owl central, a northern hardwood forest with lots of standing dead trees and small critters. The barred owls are so unreactive that, at least when they're perched, the dogs and I can walk up to within a few feet of them.

    The screech owls and great horned are shyer but still regularly appear very close to our house.

    ...I love watching "our" owls but the severed bunny heads some of them leave can be a bit - disconcerting.
