iPad pro's and con's

I've mentioned Apple's new iPad on this blog from time to time.

It seems to be attracting equal proportions of adoring fans and grumpy disdainers. In that light, I was amused that two readers of this blog each sent me a link to a different article today:

As you can probably guess, the respective authors of the articles don't exactly agree with each other! Still, it's entertaining to read each perspective.

Ah, technogeek fanboys . . .

  1. I'm reminded of one of the well known measures of success in today's world: the appearance of a web site titled "www.-sux.com"...

  2. On the other hand, it's NOT an e-book reader. The LCD screen still has the shortcomings of LCD screens, versus e-book readers. There are larger e-book readers cost competitive with the ipad that have quite a bit of functionality.

e-ink is, I think, not at the core of the expense of most readers, and it is getting better--response time is dropping, contrast is improving, and there are color readers coming out in the next few years.

The big problem with e-book readers is they're always linked to heavy copyright crap, and proprietary material acquisition. That's changing though, too, and it's also a problem with the ipad--Apple is heavy on propriety.
