Feedback, anyone?
I've asked for feedback about this blog from time to time, but no-one seems to have much to say. However, I learned today that some readers feel that I'm posting too much stuff, too many articles each day, so that they're a bit overwhelmed. Some say they're only coming here once a week or thereabouts, because it's too much to take in each day. (Other readers have said they like the number of posts, and come here every day precisely because there are so many of them.)
So, what do you think? Do I put up too many posts, or too few? Too long, or too short? Interesting content, or not really?
I really need to hear from you, readers, because I can't improve this blog if I don't know what you like. Please leave a comment to let me know what you'd prefer to see.
Thanks in advance.
Peter
No complaints here, although I'm the sort of freak who has 400+ RSS feeds in my reader. Your 4-5 posts a day are a drop in the bucket.
ReplyDeleteThough I don't read you every day, it's your blog. I enjoy reading what you WANT to post - because that's what you FIND interesting. M
ReplyDeleteYou're doing fine.
ReplyDeleteNbpundit
I don't mind at all. I skip the aircraft stuff and most of the videos, but I keep your blog in my reader because the rest is good stuff! Plus you're cool. I say it's your blog and you should do what YOU want with it. :D
ReplyDeleteYou're on my daily blog list. I absolutely love the variety and quality of topics covered here. Your blog lives up to your moniker.
ReplyDeleteThe ONLY thing I have ever griped about to myself is the fact that you have everything post around midnight. Not a problem most of the time, but sometimes you are writing about something that is happening that day, and it is too late to catch it when I find out!
ReplyDeleteOther than that Peter I wouldn't change a THING!
I find your post count to be just about right. You are on my list of daily reads because I enjoy your wit and value your experiences. If you post more than I can read in a day, I just come back as I have time. I would rather you pst to much content than not enough.
ReplyDeleteI also love how varied the topics are that you choose to blog about, as well as the fact that quite a bit of your material comes from international sources. I think that you are doing a suberb job.
Thank you for the time that you put into this blog.
I like it, I visit every day and post some of your stuff on a messageboard I use. It's all good stuff.
ReplyDeleteGraybeard of TradeMe NZ.
Keep the stuff coming, Peter. You're my second daily stop, right after Insty, and I enjoy the wide variety of your posts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of it.
Love your weekend Wings articles and look forward to more. I would like to see more of your "Weekend Navy" as well. They are well written and interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteOf course all the other stuff you post is of interest to me as well.
I think there might be an article or two that's not of interest, but you have so many interesting articles that it's not a problem.
Keep on the way you have been doing, they'll get read with interest!
Reading your blog is the... ummm...second thing I do each morning.
ReplyDeleteI need caffeine and literacy before going off to suffer butchery of the English language on the gun boards.
Eclectic range of subjects, and always new content, every single day.
If you're comfortable with the idea, more pure "opinion" pieces would be welcome.
I especially appreciate the obvious devotion to the common soldier, and those who chronicled their wars.
When you honoured Bill Mauldin and Ernie Pyle, it was pure serendipity. I thought, "Someone else remembers and cares too. Wow!"
And the Doofi! Love 'em. You make Charles Darwin roll beneath his headstone, chortling at his own brilliant insight.
Allow me to show a glimpse of my morning...
ReplyDeleteI make coffee, open my laptop, and relax over said coffee while browsing various sites I read daily.
Your blog, Peter, is one that comes up on my RSS reader. Because of quantity and quality of what you post, your blog is treated differently than all the others. On yours, instead of opening a vignette of a post, I click on the blog name and have it open a new tab. This I save till I am done my other browsing, so I can enjoy what you have posted in it's entirety.
This is now a regular feature of the time I spend waking slowly each morning with coffee in hand, and it's a feature I very much enjoy.
Please continue!
Hey, it is your blog, post if you want to! (OK, so I'm a little biased since I like the way you're posting now.)
ReplyDeleteDon't change.
ReplyDeleteI check your blog 2x a day. I do not read everything but read and enjoy at least 90% of what you write. LOVE your aviation history blogs. The quality of your blog is excellent and I hope it contiues with both it's frequency and it's high quality.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes and thank you NukemJim
Post as much as you want, and I'll keep reading all of it. Your blog is one of my favorites. I like the diversity of topics, too.
ReplyDeleteNo complaints here keep up the good work read most days.
ReplyDeletePeter, I'm a daily reader of your blog. I think you have very insightful views on the Catholic church. I don't necessarily read EVERYTHING you write; heck, I'm not even interested in everything I write, but you can be depended upon to have a thought out viewpoint that is well expressed.
ReplyDeleteI say keep it up.

I drop in once a day, I don't watch your doofus vids as I don't enjoy watching people being hurt, but I find most everything else interesting.
ReplyDeletePeter
ReplyDeleteFirst a hearty thank you for all the effort you put into your blog. I have to say it is with open admiration of your energy I offer these thanks.
Posting rate is very subjected and personal. The once in a yonder visitor is, by definition, not your most engaged readership. Life is a really running at the pace you post - actually far faster.
My take is that you should post at the rate that pleases nobody but you, Peter. I can hang with this rate, or even several times this rate - or a lower rate.
It is what you feel willing to share and comment upon that bring me back to read your posts - not the rate of posting.
If you please your own muse and needs, and continue your heartfelt commentary, it is certain that your blog will continue with success.

You're doing great, I can always count on you for either an uplifting word, something funny, or something for which to be upset about, which is exactly what I want!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I don't know how you do it, but please keep doing it.
ReplyDeleteBe yourself...post at the rate you are comfortable with and continue to make the start of my day interesting and thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteI think K9ZW said everything I was going to.
ReplyDeleteJim
I ditto K9ZW. I have learned much from you and look forward to your posts each morning. The current rate is fine. The quality doesn't go down when you post a lot. That's a definite plus!
ReplyDeleteYou find the good stuff, and for that I'm thankful. Thank you for asking the question, and seeking my opinion. Usually, it's a bit of Bible reading, Drudge and your blog in my morning.
Take care, amigo!

Ah, Peter:
ReplyDeleteI'm a lawyer in South Texas. Every morning I come to the office at about 6:30 a.m. The first thing I do is power up and visit several favorite sites. Your site is the first. Of course, there is a second and third.
I have pointed your site to friends, who keep the momentum going. We have discussed you several times. The talent, the humor, and the plethora of information. Those who want less can go elsewhere. One of my friends commented "When Peter quits, where are we going to get this stuff?" That says it all
I must be liking it the way it is; I keep coming back every day.
ReplyDeleteRespectfully,
-Popgun
First place I visit every morning- and your eclectic mix of stories is a good way to get some folks thinking, who may otherwise have no introduction to an other than MSM take on things. Good job!
ReplyDeleteYour an everyday read.
ReplyDeleteWrite what you want, we'll be reading it.
Gerry
Peter,
ReplyDeleteYour blog is great and I appreciate the time you put in on it. I read it every morning and like it as is!
Paul Campbell
No problem here! I view your blog through the 'bayourenman' feed I created on LiveJournal for that purpose, and your few posts among the 60-90 I read in a given day are hardly a burden. I often share your links with friends on LiveJournal or Facebook--always giving credit where due. :)
ReplyDeleteI REALLY like the weekend wings stuff! On days when you post long informative articles I don't always get time to read everything, but I have no complaints, we are YOUR guest so you do what pleases YOU!
ReplyDeletePlease keep doing what you've been doing, just as is. I very much enjoy the combination of news, history, the odd and idiotic (i.e. your awards)and of course your personal comments (those perhaps most of all). I also like to hear how you're doing - I've been reading your blog for a while now, and have come to feel that I know you at least a little bit. Thanks for all the effort that you put into this, and again - good job and keep it up!
ReplyDeleteJust keep on doing like you do now. I just drop by all 2-3 days and enjoy the reading.
ReplyDeleteUnlike most of the others who read your blog first in their morning blog-roll, I reserve yours for last. Like a fine wine, a great single malt, or a tasty dessert, I take my time and enjoy it. Don't change a thing, unless you want to, and then I suppose we'll all adjust to that.
ReplyDeleteThanks for writing.
Keep it up, Peter!! I go here every morning, and I love it!
ReplyDeleteJust keep doing what you do, as long as you enjoy it. I check your blog everyday.
ReplyDeleteIt is on my list to read every day, and I read everything you put on the blog. Love the military history stuff the best.
ReplyDeleteI like the number of posts! This is one of the few blogs that I visit daily.
ReplyDeleteYou're on my daily list, and I think the posting level is about right. Sometimes I have to postpone reading your longer posts such as the Weekend Wings, but they wouldn't be as good if they were shorter.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up - you're doing great!
Peter, I don't comment often, but - you are a daily MUST READ for me - I LIKE the way you do things {wish I could find as much to write about as you!}, but would continue to check in every day, no matter WHAT changes you might make .....................

I just wanted to drop a line to agree with most everyone else here. Keep up the good work! Yours is one of my favorite blogs, BECAUSE of your frequent interesting articles. I especially enjoy your weekend military articles, as they are quite informative and well researched, and I learn things I would never have known about otherwise.
ReplyDeletePlease don't allow the few that dislike reading to ruin the fun for the rest of us!
No matter how hard you try, you'll never make everybody happy. Write what you want to write, whether one post per day or many, and your loyal readers will follow along, as the above comments demonstrate.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, it's your blog. Do what seems right to you.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I enjoy it just the way it is. It's like browsing at a bookstore. I can skip or skim items of minimal interest to me, and read in depth those that are to my liking.
Keep up the good work.
I'm not a prolific commenter, but I love your blog. The effort you put into it is obviously immense, and I greatly appreciate it. I am an aviation nut, so I really enjoy the aviation-themed posts. As a Catholic who shares your concern for our church, I also appreciate your point of view from the other side of the Roman collar.
ReplyDeleteIt's your blog, so you post as much as you want. If there is someone who is overwhelmed with the post count, there's always the "Mark all as read" button!
Thanks for a great blog!
The first person that must like your blog is yourself. We blog for our benefit and pleasure. If we are lucky, there are others that like what we say when we say it.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the current rate of postings! I read them all. I enjoy your take on events as a former pastor, and your experiences in Africa, and your researched airplane postings.
ReplyDeleteThank you for informing and entertaining us.

ReplyDeleteThank you for informing and entertaining us.
In my opinion yours is one of the best blogs on the net. You are a great warrior against the "endarkenment". Please post whatever you wish, I'll keep reading.
ReplyDeletethank you,
James Druse
How in the world can a blogger post TOO MUCH! It's impossible. If you did the opposite, no one would visit.
ReplyDeletePost as much as you want. We'll read it. One post or more, it's the content that is important.
Ignore your critics, Peter.
Daily read. I skim some of the longer posts because they're not in my area of interest, and read others deeply because they are.
ReplyDeleteChange nothing.
I wouldn't make any changes unless _you_ are unhappy with things. That said, I like the stuff you post, your attitude, and your good humor. Completely satisfied "customer" here.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog as it is. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteAs others have said, ultimately it is up to you how much you post, as it is your blog.
If you want to post more, do it, if you want to post less, do it.
Have fun, no matter what.
What's there to improve? Do it your way!
ReplyDeleteGiven your vast range of experiences, your perverse sense of humor, and your keen intellect, I think it is far better for society that you are blogging rather than roaming the streets, looking for trouble.
ReplyDeleteKeep it up!

Keep up the good work and thanks for caring but continue as is....

One of the reasons I stop by here every day is that there is always something to read, and I generally read everything you post, plus view the videos.
ReplyDeleteThis means you have extraordinarily good taste, since it mirrors mine.
MC
I recently came across your blog, and I love it! The high output is a plus, when combined with the high quality of the posts. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteI really like it
ReplyDeleteIt's great, don't change a thing!!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your site and have no complaints. I probably send more links from your site to friends than from any other.
ReplyDeleteThat tells me that I find them interesting and worth sharing. Keep up the great job you're doing.
And, thanks for doing it.
You rock.
I love the aircraft stuff, of course my Dad was Airforce (well Army Air Corps when he entered) so to me its like reading about him. I think your number is about right.
ReplyDeleteI find your blog highly informative! I especially like the features on aviation (I work for American as a mechanic). Besides, it's YOUR blog, do it YOUR way! :-]
ReplyDeleteLeave it as is in my mind! I enjoy my almost daily dose of the things you come up with! Rock on my friend!
ReplyDeleteI like the large number of posts that you put up. I might skim over some stuff when you post it, but i'll always come back and read what I missed. Keep doing what you're doing!
ReplyDeleteYou are my favorite blog. don't change a thing!
ReplyDeleteJust another voice saying don't change a thing (well, I wouldn't mind even more content, but we don't want to work you to death). You do great.
ReplyDeletePerfect as is. I much prefer it to the shallow stuff in the press.
ReplyDeleteI like what you are doing now. I read blogs daily and I love finding all of your posts.
ReplyDeleteDon't change a thing. I read your blog every day and am constantly pleased, surprised, and amazed at the variety and informational content. It is obvious that you spend a lot of time researching your subject matter and in my checking, I find your work to be accurate and truthful. Thank you for starting this blog, and I hope you keep it up for a long time.
ReplyDeletePaul in Texas
Nonsense. Please continue to post as much as possible. Really if someone is overwhelmed by the number of posts then they do not have to read them. Peter your blog is the most entertaining and informative reads out there please do not change a thing.
ReplyDeleteI concur with all the readers who urge you to continue your current practice. You are a daily read for me, and I appreciate all the effort you put into your blog.
ReplyDeleteLawdog, on the other paw, could emulate your output a little.
Peter, I think you're doing well as is. Even though I seldom comment, yours is a daily read. I find your variety of posts refreshing.
ReplyDeletePlease do not change a thing.
ReplyDeleteI second Fuzzy! I like it just the way it is. If they think there is too much than they can reduce the intake they shouldn't insist the flow slow down.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the interesting posts.
I read you because I find most of what u post is interesting. It's your blog and I think you should continue to post what , when and however much you want to .That is after all what attracted me and many others in the first place.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Mally57. NZ.
I read your blog every day - don't often comment but I really enjoy the breadth of articles on it and your sense of humour is a real plus. I was also born in SA and my parents were anti-apartheid activists, so I find your experiences and comments on this subject particularly interesting. The aircraft stuff I tend to breeze over :-). More of the same please!
ReplyDeleteI've heard over and over from many different liberal sources about how ignorant, biased and mean conservatives are. This blog is proof that you can have a conservative viewpoint, be well rounded, intelligent and thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteEven if I don't agree with everything you post your writings make me think. Thanks for all you do! I really enjoy your blog.
I like your blogging style just the way it is, Peter. If I can't get to it every day I'm assured that there *will* be new stuff every day, so when I do get to it I've got something to sink my teeth into, so to speak. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteShell
Great Job!
ReplyDeleteDon't listen to whiners. Do with this what you are happy doing.
I use Feedly to read your blog. Your posts are normally the first things I read. Number of daily post is fine. But not any higher.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mogrith. Just enough posts but not too many; a variety of topics every day with something for everyone. No need to change anything!
ReplyDeleteTo give you an idea, I've been on vacation since late June, got back early July, and am now trying to catch up with your blog. Note that I'm catching up and not just marking everything as read.
ReplyDeleteThe number of items is daunting, but I love WHAT you post, so I wouldn't want you to reduce it for any reason other than you not finding anything of interest.
I find your take on things interesting, and you tend to pull up things that no one else does. You're also a daily read for some of my other friends that have different mindsets than I, so I know you have a broad appeal.
Hope that helps.
