Doofus Of The Day #378

Today's Doofus is from Italy.

Maria Rizzo, 34, stopped to admire the spectacular view from the street above this house in Alassio in northern Italy.

But she was so intent on taking a picture that she forgot to put on the handbrake.

Her car rolled away, smashing through a barrier and plunging down the hill onto the house below.

It broke through the roof and landed in the bathroom, with the front end wedged in an iron bath which broke the fall and stopped the Fiat Panda plunging further into the house.

There's more at the link.

I wonder how they're going to get that car out of there? Doesn't seem to be any natural approach for a crane . . . perhaps a helicopter with a winch? However they do it, it promises to be expensive!

  1. Surely, the Italians have cutting implements. I myself have dismembered a similar vehicle into small bits, but not in quite that situation.

  2. I'd likewise say cut it to pieces. I don't know if any of it is salvageable - one unused parking brake, anyway - but the rest could come apart with pneumatic shears and patience.

  3. I remember a prank at the local highschool some years ago where a car appeared overnight in the rivaling school on the third floor, half in the hallway and the other half on the other side of the wall in the auditorium.

The car had to be cut into pieces so it could be carried down. How it got there in the first place is still not known. :)

It would be interesting to know who has the legal right to decide what happens. I assume the house owner cant cut up someone elses property?

  4. I assume that since it's in their house, they (or their insurance co.) get to decide how to deal with it. I don't think the car owner has (or should have) a whole lot to say about it at this point.

  5. Just leave the car where it is and repair / rebuild the house around it.
