Emergency crews in Portland, Oregon had an interesting encounter recently.
A car full of people dressed as zombies crashed on Interstate 84 near downtown Portland on Friday, causing initial confusion by people who witnessed the crash.
Portland Police said the car was swerving in the eastbound lanes of the freeway just east of the Lloyd District just after 9:30 p.m. when it rolled over and crashed onto its top.
Emergency crews took five victims from the crash to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that in their investigation they learned that the people inside the car were dressed as zombie costumes and they were headed to a party at the time of the crash.
Sgt. Greg Stewart said people who witnessed the crash initially thought the victims' injuries were much more serious, because of the zombie costumes.
"We're glad that everyone is alive, despite being 'undead'," Sgt. Stewart said, referring to the costumes.

I'm thinking it's lucky the average ambulance doesn't include wooden stakes, garlic and silver bullets in its inventory! Still, can you imagine the fun if this had happened in Texas, and Lawdog and/or Matt G. had been among the responding officers?

Heh.
ReplyDeleteReminds of the time I taught theatrical wound simulation to a class of EMS instructor candidates.
After everyone had a chance to polish their technique, we all retired outside to pose for pictures with our Hollywood-realistic "injuries."
Within 5 minutes, we had 4 police cars, a fire engine, and an ambulance on scene.
The cops and firemen took a bit of explaining to grasp what was going on, but the ambulance crew got it right away. They drove up, looked out their windows, and drove away laughing.
It seems their "mass casualty incident" was not quite as horrific as the 911 caller had led them to believe. ;)
