This video clip was shot in Morocco. The motorcyclist reaches speeds of up to 87 mph on his home-built contraption, adopting the weird and almost uncontrollable position shown.
One pothole, one undue bounce, and he'd have had no control whatsoever to stop himself crashing. If he'd done so, I don't think he'd have qualified for the 72 virgins Islamic martyrs are supposed to receive . . . but I daresay he might have found himself handed over to 72 deceased traffic cops, to teach him a lesson!

Nope, he wouldn't get his 72 virgins - you only get them dying in the cause of jihad, not stupidity...

Suggest you Google a chap named Rollie Free...
ReplyDeleteIt's really not as crazy as it looks. That thing has at least basic suspension and the rim/tire setup is beefier than what's found on bicycles.
ReplyDeleteAt those speeds the weight of the spinning rims and tires is acting like two gyroscopes. Trust me, a "small pothole" wouldn't be enough to spill him.
The position is about aerodynamics for this one high-speed run.
Well, at least he's got a helmet and leathers on.

Having ridden motorcycles, this is exactly counter to my belief of how bikes handles. I agree w Bayou Ren Man - I'd bet that if he hit a tin can, he'd be down, bouncing, and dead.
Gene pool missed a chlorine infusion (again)...

ReplyDeleteYes, Rollie Free adopted a similar riding position, but he did so on the Bonneville Salt Flats, where other traffic, potholes, etc. weren't factors with which he had to contend. That makes it a very different proposition to the present doofus!
Dude knows something about aerodynamics, though.
ReplyDeleteCrazy? Sure, but I'm impressed that he could reach that speed with what appears to be a small, moped-sized 1 cylinder engine!

I did some crazy things in my youth, after all isn't that when we are supposed to be a little crazy!
ReplyDeleteSeems that line between crazy and stupid gets thinner by the day.
