I imagine she can't hear herself think!

Quite why anyone would want to install 40,000 watts of bass-boosted sound in their vehicle, I can't figure out, but that's what someone did to this one. The results are plain to see.

I wonder if such an incredibly deep vibration could affect one's bodily organs at close range like that? Certainly, it looks like a sure-fire cure for indigestion and/or constipation!

  1. Geez, If the van seat is vibrating like her hair no wonder she has that big smile: "I'm Close" look splashed across her face!

  2. I saw a Suburban at a car show one time like this, the roof would flex up and down about 1/2 inch with the bass. No wonder their hearing is shot, soon they will have to have it this loud just to hear it at all.

  4. I'm waiting for the welds and rivets to work loose and the car to fall apart.

  5. I think you're right, Peter. There has been research into using sound fields as weapons, although they are mostly used to make ears hurt for area denial.

But loud sound is just high pressure waves, and pressure waves absolutely can damage you. The pressure is one of the reasons for a large fall-back radius around rocket launch facilities.

  6. I have a friend that used to have an 18-inch subwoofer in the back of his 1983 Civic Wagon. The roof sheet metal would oscillate a good six inches when he had it fired up. He wound up pulling the speaker for fear of the car's health.

  7. It WILL damage not only hearing, but it can vibrate the thoracic cavity, which is NOT good for the little things like the heart...

  10. I remember reading of experiments conducted for riot control in the '70s. It was found that high power at 66 Hz would cause the lower intestines to achieve harmonic resonance--which made bowel control absolutely impossible!

    Talk about a crappy experience!!

  11. Ummm, at 100% efficiency, that's almost 3000 amp of 14 VDC. At the more typical efficiency of less than 50%, that is 6000 amps of 14 VDC. I'm calling shenanigans on the power output. The power supply would have to be a genset as large as the car or larger.
