Dumbasses indeed!

From Germany we learn of a group calling themselves the 'Bavarian Dumbasses' - which appears to be an entirely appropriate nickname.  The Telegraph reports:

German police have launched a manslaughter investigation after a daredevil stunt involving a BMW, duct tape and a children's merry-go-round left a man dead.

The 20-year-old male died from head injuries after being thrown six yards by the spinning carousel in a playground in the Bavarian town of Oberviehbach.

Part of a group known for posting footage of dangerous stunts on the Internet, the man, known only as Tobias, had been strapped by tape to the carousel, and then friends wrapped a rope tied to the car around it.

They then climbed into the BMW and accelerated away, spinning the merry-go-round but the centrifugal force got the better of the man's moorings and sent him flying.

"I heard this terrible scream and shouts for help," a woman who lived near the playground told the Munchner Merkur newspaper. "When I arrived my husband was already there and he was trying to revive the victim but it was useless. He was covered in blood and think he neck was broken."

There's more at the link.

What can one say about such stupidity?  It's as bad as the idiots who use a motorbike to spin a playground roundabout at high speed, throwing riders off and risking equally serious consequences.  Here's one of many videos on YouTube documenting such behavior.

I gather some of the group are still in hospital, being treated for shock.  I expect the 'nanny state' will even pay for their treatment!  Personally, I'd jail them, and let them work out their shock and horror by breaking rocks for a few years . . .

  1. How do you say in German, "Hey, hold my beer and watch this!"?

  2. Why bother to jail them? I mean, just make them pay for their own medical treatment, and hope they learned a lesson.

It's not like they hurt anyone else.

Think of it as evolution in action. We could use more of that, not less.
