"The Poop Snake"

Apparently the state of Dubai doesn't have a piped sewage system.  Instead, hundreds of sewage tanker trucks collect waste from all over the place and take it to a central processing facility.  Apparently the backup of trucks waiting to discharge their loads can be three days long!

Here's a video clip of the extraordinary line of vehicles.  LANGUAGE ALERT - the people filming the trucks aren't particularly careful of their vocabulary.

I shudder to think of the stench if one or more of them were to suffer a major collision or accident . . .

  1. If this is indicative of Dubai's planning, I wouldn't go near the place on a bet, let alone stay in one of their 'futuristic' skyscrapers or undersea resorts.

  2. Another case of a culture, which emphasizes the disregarding of basic essentials, which cost money and brings no instant gratification.

Sure the European tourists are flocking to the vacation paradise and I can assure you the English, French and Germans will never see or smell this gravy train of honey buckets.

  4. I am in Qatar and the same thing goes on here. What sucks id driving down the highway and one of these guys is in front of you leaking. At least the trucks in Dubai are new, there are some pretty beat up tankers here. The other wonderful pleasure is being around while they are sucking out your tank, the plume can take your breath away. I pity the drivers though they use plain leather gloves or even untreated cotton gloves much of the time.

  5. This must be the open cess pit I blogged about several years ago.

  6. And... it's really warm there in Dubai. I'm sure that "helps" with the stench.

  8. I'm just imagining the mess that would happen if a hostile aircraft mistook them for fuel tankers & strafed the, um, out of them...
