Books, friends, food, fun and laughter
Miss D. and I had a great evening. We went to a bookstore south of Nashville where Larry Correia, my long-standing friend and (for the past couple of years) Miss D.'s as well, was signing copies of his latest book. A group of his fans from the Nashville area gathered to meet him, and he kept us all amused by stories of how this scene or that character came to be. Would you believe he's already published 10 novels, and is under contract for 16 more? He only began publishing his work in 2008, and up to this year has been writing part-time while working full-time as an accountant! The man's got more talent and capacity for hard work than just about anyone I know.
After the book-signing was over, we invited Larry to join us at a locally famous Italian restaurant ("home of the half-pound meatball"), along with several more of his fans, including Oleg and his lady love. The food was spectacularly good, as always, and served in vast quantities (they warn you up front that their 'small' portion will feed two, and their 'large' servings are sufficient for four to five people). We went through several delicious dishes, swapping serving plates back and forth around the table so that everyone could sample all of them. Bellies thoroughly distended, we talked on while the poor wait staff cleaned up around us, doubtless hoping we'd go home soon so they could get some sleep!
We eventually called it a night so that Larry could get some sleep before heading for Memphis tomorrow. We got home a short while ago, and Miss D.'s already hit the sack. I'm going to do the same thing. I'll put up more blog posts in the morning.
Sleep well, y'all. I'm going to dream of giant shell pasta stuffed with ground meats, cheese and herbs, and veal, and canneloni, and half-pound meatballs the size of softballs, and chicken breasts stuffed with prosciutto and cheese, and . . .
Peter
