Useful and clever

Ever tried to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew?  It's a lot easier than I thought.

That's ingenious!

  1. Not nearly as dramatic as pulling out a knife, stabbing through the cork , twisting and pulling out the cork. Works great, but requires a thin blade that will pass through the bottle neck.
I guess winedrinkers don't carry a knife anymore.........

  3. Oh geez. Now I feel the urge to try this. (Here, hold my beer and wa.... Uh, wait a minute....)

Interesting, but a lousy idea in a wine with any sediment. Sure you could use one of those sediment catchers (kinda like a funnel except with a sealed spout and small drain holes about 5-10mm above the bottom) afterwards, but if you don't have a corkscrew what are the chances you'll have a filter?

  4. Note: Don't try this with Champagne. ;)

  6. And now that most wine bottles in Australia don't use corks anymore, they tell me this? :)
I'm gonna get me a bottle of imported stuff to try this!
(well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
