It's odd to think that Rowan Atkinson (better known to most readers as Mr. Bean) has been active in British comedy circles for 35-odd years (some of them very odd!). Here he is on 'Not the Nine O'Clock News' in 1980, announcing his candidacy for President of the United States.
You know, apart from not being a US citizen and all that sort of thing, how could he possibly be worse than any of the current likely candidates?
Peter
I know you are likely joking, but other than the citizenship issue, Rowan Atkinson is an exceedingly intelligent man. He hold a Masters degree in electrical engineering and was educated at The Queen's College at Oxford University. He is also quite political and has worked to keep freedom preserved in creative works in England, as more groups work to restrict "hate speech". He is an avid racer and a serious collector of cars.
ReplyDeleteWe could certainly do worse for politicians.....and as you can see, we already have.
And he'd bring more political experience as Blackadder than the amateur that we have now.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I've always thought of him as the perfect actor to portray Lord Vetinari from Terry Pratchett's novels. Now, THERE'S a President.
ReplyDeleteDoes citizenship matter? It didn't for the current one.
ReplyDeleteI know it's unfashionable, and down right un-PC but I think i'd like to know his real position on a few things before I go down that road. Yeah I know i'm supposed to vote the party line no matter what because deviation from the two party system is EVIL but that's just the way I roll. I'm willing to consider it.
ReplyDeleteUS Citizen? I think president may have been set on that. Unqualified? I know president has been set on that. Intelligence has also proven to be irrelevant.
As far as Clowns in office - at least Rowan is funny. The current clown is just scary.
