This video was shot earlier this month from a hillside overlooking the runway of the airport on Madeira, a Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean. Looks like the crosswinds there are extra special . . .

I'm thinking the "all steering" landing gear of the B-52 would be beneficial in this sort of crosswind. Braking with the typical tri-gear might not be allowed until the wheels are aligned with the body, though.

ReplyDeleteIn line with what Will said, all these airplanes were designed by engineers who did not think the steerable landing gear of the B-52 was necessary.
