In my own life, I've found this to be true so many times that it's not even funny any more. The Romans had their own version of the idea. Whichever philosophy you follow, they're words to live by.
Someone I know, and care about, once said,"Real men have peace in their hearts and not a piece on their hips." My response,"Because I do have peace in my heart I pray that I'm able to keep my piece on my hip."
Sorta like Teddy Roosevelt's "big stick" quote.
