Courtesy of a link provided by Australian reader Snoggeramus, I laughed like mad at this news report. For the benefit of those who don't speak Australian slang, a 'plugger' is a thong.
Well done, those men!
I particularly enjoyed the comment from an Australian police spokesman:
“Taking the keys from the ignition would have been enough to slow the offenders down, jumping in the car was not needed,” Insp MacQueen said.
“Police are specially trained to respond to these situations, they have tasers, capsicum spray and guns.
“A gentleman with a busted thong just doesn’t have the same capabilities.”
Peter
I thought they spoke English "down under."
ReplyDeleteNo, they speak Australian, like we, in the states, speak American. English is spoken in England. The three languages are similar but not the same.
ReplyDeleteI understood the reporters but the two men were unintelligible. Funny, but I had no idea what they said.
Delete"The only gym I go to is Jim Beam."
ReplyDeleteHurrah!
“Police are specially trained to respond to these situations, they have tasers, capsicum spray and guns.
ReplyDelete“A gentleman with a busted thong just doesn’t have the same capabilities.”
No, no, no. According to that statement, the police are specially EQUIPPED. A gentleman with a busted thong has EXACTLY the same CAPABILITIES if just given access to the same EQUIPMENT.
... and if the police themselves had not been complicit in the disarming of Australian citizens, then that distinction would not exist.
As it is, civilian ownership of all three of those items is effectively banned.
