NASA has released an ultra-high-definition 4K video of the Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis, taken from the International Space Station. It makes for spectacular viewing. Watch it in full-screen mode for best results.
I don't suppose I'll live long enough to get into space. It's the only thing that makes me wish I was younger. The odds are pretty good that someone in his or her twenties today will be able to take a tourist flight to orbit before they die, and see such sights for themselves.
*Sigh*

I remember watching the moon landings on TV as a child, then going outside to stare at the moon in wonder.
ReplyDeleteI graduated High School in the mid-70's, with the Space Shuttle program already underway. I was *convinced* that before I got too old I'd be able to take a tourist flight to the moon. I was sorely disappointed with the way our manned space program withered away.
I hope that your prognostication is right, and that my kids, if not myself, can take that trip.
Some beautiful views - thanks for sharing! And, yup, I too sigh that I likely won't make it into space.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I also have to fuss about the editing. They cut between views too fast, IMHO.
