Positively sinister in their dexterity . . .

Congratulations to all left-handed readers (including my sister E.).  Today is your day.

To mark International Left-Handers Day, which falls every year on August 13, here's some lovely left-leaning facts. So take a moment to pause and appreciate the plight of your left-handed friends living in a right-handed world.

1.) Just 10 per cent of the world's population is left-handed and this has remained roughly the case for thousands of years. Men are also more likely to be left-handed...

4.) The word sinister comes from the Latin word "sinestra" which originally meant “left” but took on meanings or “evil” or “unlucky”...

5.) Wedding rings worn on the third finger of the left hand originated with the Greeks and Romans, who wore them to fend of evil associated with the left-hand...

11.) Five out of the last seven US presidents write with their left hand - Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.

There's more at the link.

That last fact makes me wonder whether they ran for elefted office . . .

  1. Also, as one side of the brain controls the other side of the body, only left handed people are in their right mind.

  2. On the OTHER hand (groan), we who have been to the big sand pile over there all know what that world uses the left hand for. Just sayin'...

  3. Peter,

in regards to what BobF was saying, and your following article about the elite and what they get away with:

Do you recall that Osama Bin Laden was clearly and publicly seen to be left-handed? He and his family were wealthy.
