If you ever thought you could prevent people from getting their hands on a gun by making purchases more difficult (or banning them entirely), think again. Here's how you can make a 12 gauge shotgun out of common plumber's pipe, for a total expenditure of just seven dollars. I've chosen to skip the introductory material and start the video at the actual build point. If you'd like to see the whole thing, click here to view it on YouTube.
I can think of half a dozen backyard mechanics who could turn out these things by the score. There are even examples whose barrels have been made out of PVC (plastic) pipe, rather than metal!
Gun control won't work. That cat's long out of the bag.

The Left/Progressives' minds are already made up, so don't try confusing them with facts. Their case is constructed with feelings, whimsy, and apparently wind direction.
ReplyDeleteAnd 3D printing. Build your own .22 in a weekend. What for? To get a .45.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
The NYT will even enlist ISIS to help attack the 2nd Amendment:
ReplyDeleteFrom a German who had tried out for ISIS' special forces and dropped out:
"Though dozens of Americans have become members of the Islamic State, and some have been recruited into the external operations wing, “they know it’s hard for them to get Americans into America” once they have traveled to Syria, he said.
“For America and Canada, it’s much easier for them to get them over the social network, because they say the Americans are dumb — they have open gun policies,” he said. “They say we can radicalize them easily, and if they have no prior record, they can buy guns, so we don’t need to have no contact man who has to provide guns for them.”
As I recall trombone style shotguns made from iron pipe were used with considerable effect by Philippine partisans against the Japanese in WWII. The method behind such field expedient weapons was and still is to use them to kill enemy soldiers and take their superior weapons.
ReplyDeleteWill note also that if anyone should wish to emulate the video I strongly suggest that the barrel section of pipe be at least 18 inches long and that you attach some sort of stock to the breech to give an overall length of 26 inches or more. It's not illegal in most states to build your own firearm, but BATFE will come down hard on anyone who fails to meet those minimum dimensions. Technically, what the gentleman in the video built was a sawed off shotgun.
Also, while you may build your own firearm, without a federal manufacturing license and a host of other regulations anything you build can never be sold or otherwise transferred to anyone else, and at your death must be destroyed. Or so state the current regulations.
Go to BCtruck he has two videos on building your own gun basically in your garage, no machine shop equipment required. The link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqNcqavmljZX38x_Ksby7ahApUHhxUgEW
ReplyDeleteAlso he had a concept for one he did not build because a commentator or two pointed out he would be in violation of the BATFE rules. So he called, had a pleasant conversation with a gentleman and sure enough the enhancement he wanted to do would have been a real problem.
I would not build a 12 gauge device like this without doing BATFE destructive device paperwork - any weapon with a bore over 0.50 inch is considered a destructive device UNLESS it has a 'sporting use' exemption - however, if you built one that used .410 shot shells and a barrel over 18.5 inches, then you are ok, OR if you find a way to rifle the barrel, even if just barely, then you could build a short one as a 'pistol'.
ReplyDeleteUncle Lar: Not only can you build your own weapons, you can legally sell them as long as they have a unique serial number (federally; some state rules differ). If you really want to, there is even a procedure to register them with the BATFE. Of course you can't make and sell very many weapons before the BATFE wants you to get a manufacturer license - the rule of thumb I have heard is 3 or fewer per year.
Micheal Bane pointed out that once self-contained cartridges were developed, it was game over if one possessed a few tools, as far as gun-making was concerned. A Sten gun is basically civil war era technology, plumbing plus a couple springs.
ReplyDeleteAll of the above is insanity. Everyone with two brain cells to electrically stimulate each other knows it's insanity. A Winchester Model 94 with a 15 inch barrel is no different than a Winchester Model 94 with a 16 inch barrel with the exception of possibly being -1 on magazine capacity, and instantly becomes less useful and effective if you saw off the stock. However, if it was built after a certain date and or you don't have a curios and relics cert., for one that meets the magic (and still in the realm of insanity) age requirement, it requires a tax stamp for a short barreled rifle and a proctology-league background check to get the permit. All of which is assininity. And the referenced video is why the screeching crazies also desire with all of their little black hearts to put restrictions if not outright bans on ammunition purchase and possession, both assembled and in component form. chew on that and act accordingly. The proverbial camel's shoulders and hump are already under the edge of the proverbial tent.
