Someone should have warned the fire department . . .

There's a Norwegian TV program that seems to be something like Discovery Channel's Mythbusters.  It conducts weird experiments and films the results, which are sometimes rather spectacular.

Here's what happened when they tried combining potassium iodide with hydrogen peroxide . . . and adding flame. Watch it in full-screen mode for best results.

Why did no-one warn the fire department not to go charging in there?  Oops . . .

Now I have to play with that stuff. Even without the fire (but why?) the Great River of Goo looks cool.

  3. That seems like the kind of fire you fight by cooling the outside and preventing it from spreading. Then soak the embers.

Is it me, or do these guy have a much lovelier place for their explosions than Mythbusters had for their central California bomb ranges.

  4. Wow. Talk about a volatile mixture.. KI + H2O2 probably releases oxygen gas, bubbling up thru gasoline into soap to create the foam.

Now let the foam from hell flow down hill to a pair of open flames. I hope and pray the clip of the fire fighters going in was cut in just before the final explosion..
