Never mind preaching to the choir - how about to the driver?
Cincy pols rammed a street car project down voters throats. It opened this year...and already the company running it says "FEED ME!!!"...the contract didn't give them enough money to run the system, they say. HAH.
Anyway, trolley/car "mishaps" are a weekly occurrence. Drivers just don't get why the trolleys don't swerve out of the way like bus drivers do. Seriously...
Safety begins with "S", and the confusion over that may have contributed to the crash.

When I worked out there, LA METRO led the world with light rail versus car crashes. I think Singapore was a distant second.

The problem with the average motorist is they have to "own the road".
