I've watched this darn video (courtesy of The Vulgar Curmudgeon) half a dozen times, and I still can't figure out if it was real or faked. What say you?
If it was real, I'd love to know how many test runs they had to do to get it right . . . and who volunteered (or was 'voluntold') for them!
Peter
That landing would have killed him, IMO.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing...
ReplyDeleteThere are up-down ripples in that downward ramp and when he slides over them, his movement (vertically) does not change. He plows straight through them.
Fake.
That video has been proven to be every bit as real as the one showing an eagle snatching an infant in the park.
ReplyDeleteVery fake. The starting point is only about 10 feet higher than the end of the ramp. No way to get enough speed to do any more than fall off the end.
ReplyDeleteFake viral video from 2009. Here's the backstory: https://gigaom.com/2009/08/11/the-megawoosh-waterslide-viral-how-it-was-really-done/
ReplyDeletefake - given the speed and depth of water that would have been fatal.
ReplyDeleteHas to be fake. That pool is tiny and the inaccuracy inherent in the method would make it suicidal. I would suggest checking out the Mythbusters waterslide episode where they had Adam doing the same thing into a lake. Much fun was had. :)
ReplyDeleteaudio of sliding on wet ramp is suspicious. displaced water (splash/wave) upon entry to the pool should travel in same direction as projectile/person.sufficient velocity to allow distance travelled would result in very sudden ultra-high G-force upon contact with water. angle of attack prior to pool entry appears too shallow to prevent skimming-off surface and subsequent contact with pool wall or the ground. two buckets of water seems inadequate to reduce coefficient of friction sufficiently to allow needed velocity.
ReplyDeleteMythbusters tried to emulate it.

I have a friend who has a hill down from his house that's not too different. Every summer around Independence Day he hosts a campout. They set up a similar slide. With just water, flowing continously, one doesn't get too much speed. However, he's a potter. He fills a little pool with water and dumps in a bag of porcelain clay, which is very slippery when wet. Step in the pool, cover yourself with what looks like thinned out paint, and away you go.
ReplyDeleteYou still can't get that kind of speed but the level run out at the bottom of the hill is 20 to 40 yards. Oh, and you can't wear clothes. Too much friction.
He's going face-forward going toward the ramp and feet first coming off the ramp. F.A.K.E.
