Sunday morning music

Friends in Colorado are vocally unhappy at being dumped on by an April snowstorm.  To comfort them, here's Flanders and Swann, a British comedy duo from the 1950's and '60's, with their Song of the Weather.

  1. April? Why are they complaining - snow in April happens all the time in Colorado; the year I lived there we got 4 inches in June!

  2. Thank you for the memory.

Michael Flanders was my parents' upstairs neighbor in the (very) late '60s, at Queens Gate Gardens in South Kensington.

I used to sit in his lap while he played piano, which was neat trick, from a wheelchair but I was tiny - maybe 3-4 years old. I'm afraid I barely remember it, and of course, everybody else involved has long since passed, but I still treasure the songs (especially the hippo and gnu).

  3. I've been snowed on two or three times here on July 4, admittedly not very much. The song sounds like they live in Portland or Seattle.

The down side is that I lost a limb off my apple tree. The news tonight will no doubt be reporting on folks who fared much worse than I.

  5. Too funny, but not for our folks out there... Apparently power is out too!

  6. Ft. Collins CO got a sweet few inches of that white wet stuff that soaked slowly into the ground & didn't need shoveling -- spring snow doesn't get much better than that!

Right now, at 4 pm, we're 69 degrees, a bit of wind and a bright blue sky. Oh, and that snow? Gone. Our "solar snow removal unit" took care of it all!

  7. Flanders and Swann were a remarkable pair, I was introduced to their tunes many years ago. They, like Tom Lehrer, must have been very very bright, and a delight to be around.
Tom Lehrer is still around by the way.
Great talent, and I wonder if anyone knows of any similar clever performers?
