Today's award goes to an over-credulous (and late) pastor in Zimbabwe.
A pastor has been killed after he was eaten by three crocodiles while trying to walk on water, it has been claimed.
Jonathan Mthethwa was trying to show his congregation how Jesus walked on water by crossing what is locally known as Crocodile River on foot, according to local reports.
. . .
‘All that was left of him when they finished eating him is a pair of sandals and his underwear floating above the water.’
There's more at the link.
Y'know, Jesus walked across the Sea of Galilee. I daresay even he might have thought twice about trying it on the Crocodile River! He might have sent Daniel, though - he made it through a night in a lion's den, so crocodiles probably wouldn't have fazed him . . .
Peter
EDITED TO ADD: It seems the report was false. Pity . . . it made a good Doofus Of The Day entry!
2 Timothy 2:15
ReplyDeleteSnake handling gets a bit dicey at times I've heard, too.
ReplyDeleteYou can't fault his faith. Now his sense is another story.
ReplyDelete"A pastor has been killed after he was eaten by three crocodiles..."
ReplyDeleteThat would've been a neat trick if it was one gigantic crocodile from the Jurassic. How three managed to keep from killing until after he was eaten is quite the feat.
... and the linked article has been removed.
ReplyDelete"You can't fault his faith."
ReplyDeleteOf course I can. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God. Many people want to extend good faith to bad faith. God's says there is one faith, "the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints."
If it is not that, consisting of what God has provided in His Word, revealed once for all, it is not "faith".
Let's see...How did that go? Oh yes: "Oh ye of little faith."
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: Your knowledge of faith, and scripture, is just a bit superficial. There is far more to it than that.
